World Fashion Festival Chicago 2026: Runways From Japan to Colombia at Navy Pier

Gowns that carry a country’s history, a lake glowing past the windows, and a dance floor that stays open until midnight: World Fashion Festival Chicago 2026 is happening right now at Navy Pier. The ninth edition opens tonight, Thursday, October 15, at Bar Sol, runs again Friday, October 16, and closes Saturday, October 17 with a free runway on State Street.

Seven designers from six countries share one runway this year: Argentina, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Japan and Mongolia. Each night pairs international collections with local celebrities walking the show, then rolls straight into an after-party at the same lakefront bar.

Who walks the World Fashion Festival runway

Thursday belongs to Latin America. Jesica Cardoba carries Argentina’s tailoring tradition onto the runway, NKF Atelier brings Colombian craft and color, and Jeanette Limas closes with Dominican glamour built for a night out.

Friday widens the map. Felix Ramiro arrives from Spain, Maia Hamira brings a Japanese eye for line and restraint, Shilmel Zagvar shows Mongolian design rarely seen on a Chicago runway, and Jorge Rey returns Argentina to the stage. Designer participation comes through consulates and cultural attachés, so every collection reads as a postcard from home: the fabrics, the silhouettes and the stories behind them.

Seven nations in two nights is the draw. Few Chicago runways put Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Santo Domingo, Madrid, Tokyo and Ulaanbaatar in the same room, and the festival builds each evening so the collections play off one another. One designer’s structured tailoring sets up the next one’s flowing color, and the crowd gets a quick tour of how each country dresses for its biggest nights.

Watch the details up close if you sit near the front: hand finishing, embroidery, the weight of a fabric as it moves. The VIP rows sit right at the edge of the runway, and the after-party gives you a chance to see the looks, and sometimes the designers, at arm’s length.

The 2026 theme is Unity Through Style, and the lineup leans into it. Expect couture next to ready-to-wear, folk references next to evening gowns, and a crowd that dresses for the occasion. Greek dance troupe SPASTA adds a burst of energy to the program between collections.

Bar Sol at Navy Pier: the runway with a lake view

The shows take over Bar Sol, the Latin American restaurant and bar at 700 E Grand Ave inside Navy Pier. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame Lake Michigan, so the runway plays out against water, sky and the pier lights after dark.

Come hungry. Bar Sol’s kitchen leans coastal and Latin: lobster empanadas stuffed with knuckle and claw meat, mariscos straight from the skillet, and capirotada, a Mexican bread pudding piled with whipped cream. Drink-ticket tiers cover a cocktail or two, and the bar keeps pouring through the after-party.

How a World Fashion Festival night unfolds

Evenings open at 5:30 PM on Thursday and Friday. Guests settle in, the room fills, and the runway takes over with the night’s designers and their collections, walked by models and local Chicago personalities. When the last look leaves the stage, the space flips into the after-party, which runs until midnight both nights and is included with every ticket.

Dress up. This is a fashion crowd on a fashion night, and the room rewards a statement piece. Navy Pier is easy to reach by rideshare to the main entrance on Grand Avenue, and the pier’s garages sit steps from the door.

Make a night of Navy Pier

Arrive early and the pier does the warm-up for you. Walk the lakefront promenade as the light drops, ride the Centennial Wheel for a skyline view, then head into Bar Sol as the doors open at 5:30 PM. The windows put the lake right behind the runway, so the sunset becomes part of the set.

Between collections, grab a seat by the glass and order something to share. When the show ends, the music turns up and the runway crowd becomes the dance floor. Plan your ride home for midnight, when the after-party wraps both nights.

Tickets for Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday are ticketed through the festival’s tickets page. General Admission is $50 and covers the runway and the after-party. Premium Experience is $75 and adds one drink ticket. VIP is $100 with two drink tickets, an exclusive swag bag and front-row or priority seating. A small service fee applies, and drink tiers are for guests 21 and over.

Each ticket is for one night, so pick the lineup that calls to you: Thursday for Argentina, Colombia and the Dominican Republic, Friday for Spain, Japan, Mongolia and Argentina.

Saturday: a free World Fashion runway on State Street

The festival ends outdoors and free. On Saturday, October 17, World Fashion takes the Second Stage at the first Loop Arts Fest at 5:30 PM, part of a street party that closes State Street between Jackson and Madison from noon to 6 PM. The runway brings designers, brands, diplomats and global communities together, with a surprise still under wraps.

Make an afternoon of it. Loop Arts Fest fills three blocks with ballet, Broadway, salsa and line dancing, and soul singer Simone Green headlines the main stage at 5 PM, so you can catch her set and walk over for the runway. The fest lands on Open House Chicago weekend, which opens doors to landmark buildings across the Loop.

The people behind the festival

World Fashion Festival is the work of founder Cesar Rolon of Imagen Consultants, who has spent nine years building a stage where international designers meet Chicago’s cultural, business, media and philanthropic communities. The festival casts its models locally, trains them in partnership with a Chicago model center, and treats fashion as a way to share culture as much as clothing.

The festival runs shows through the year as well. In March 2026 it presented a Women’s History Month show with the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, a preview of the cross-cultural pairing that defines the October festival.
